HIGHLIGHTED INVENTORY PROJECTS

Street Tree Inventory: Clayton, Missouri
The City of Clayton has one of the best, established tree care programs in Missouri.  The Clayton streets are comprised of 7921 large and newly-planted trees worth more than $17,000,000.   The street tree inventory served to highlight the city's quality program and recommend further maintenance.  SKA trained three staff certified arborists on the inventory process and digital data collection so the inventory can be seamlessly updated on a regular basis.

Street Tree Inventory:
St. Joseph, Missouri
The City of St. Joseph requires that homeowners care for the street trees adjacent to their properties; there is no city program to address street trees.  Due to this situation, the street tree population in St. Joseph is primarily old, over-mature and in need of maintenance.  The inventory revealed a staggering number of dead and high-risk trees.  Hazard assessments were performed on these trees, and the city has taken steps to notify the homeowners and also apply for grants to alleviate some of the financial burden of tree removal.

Park Tree Inventory:
Maryland Heights, Missouri
The Park Tree Inventory for Maryland Heights included six city parks ranging from small neighborhood "pocket parks", to a soccer park and pool complex, to established, largely wooded community parks.  Aerial photos were utilized to draw the hardscape features and map the trees.  Data collection and recommendations were given for each individual park.  See a sample of a small park inventoried in Maryland Heights.

Campus Tree Inventory: Washington University, St. Louis
SKA plotted the 3367 Washington University campus trees using a GPS unit.  The trees were then layered onto the existing AutoCAD base map.  Because SKA utilizes both GPS and AutoCAD software, coordination between the two formats was extremely effective.  The inventory will be useful to the university as they plan for future building projects.  It will also be critical in reducing high-risk tree situations and developing tree preservation.
